The COUNTRY BROKERS "PALAKA" or plaid graphic design is imbedded deep in Hawaiian history and speaks to Country Brokers' commitment to Hawaii. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, as Hawaii emerged as a powerful plantation economy, immigrant workers needed a rugged shirt that was suitable for hard labor in the fields. By the early 1930's the blue and white palaka denim became the standard work shirt of Hawaii and soon the unofficial national costume of Hawaii. COUNTRY BROKERS chose the palaka as part of our logo because it symbolizes both hard work and economic opportunity. Immigrants to Hawaii were proud to wear the palaka and so are we.
